SACP Raimon Panikkar Symposium on Climate Change
AAR San Diego, November 22, 2019

At the annual meeting of the American Academy of Religion in San Diego, the SACP will host a mini-symposium on Raimon Panikkar and his intercultural-intrareligious thought, in addition to the regular SACP panel(s). This symposium is made possible by private donations. It will take place on November 22 (Friday), the day before the beginning of the official AAR program in order to avoid any scheduling conflict.

Last year in Denver, we celebrated Raimon Panikkar’s centenary, and dedicated a book, a collection of essays, entitled Raimon Panikkar: A Companion (Cambridge: James Clark, 2018), ed., Peter Phan & Young-chan Ro.

This year, we will focus on Panikkar’s theo-anthropo-cosmic vision and the pressing issue of climate change. Christian, Hindu, Islamic, Buddhist, Confucian-Daoist, and secular perspectives on the climate change will be examined with the idea of coming up with a SACP resolution that may have practical bearings upon our professional responsibility.
