This series provides a platform for the latest research on Buddhist traditions across the connected world of pre-modern Asia, drawing on philology, art history, archaeology, and intellectual, cultural and social history. It engages with a textual landscape transformed by the digitisation of vast corpora, the development of computational methods, and the refinement of editorial and analytical approaches suited to the complex and fluid textual histories that characterise Buddhist literary traditions. At the same time, it builds on the material turn in Buddhist Studies, in which archaeological and visual evidence, and the consideration of text-bearing objects in their materiality, have become central to the historical study of Buddhist thought-worlds and practice. By bringing these two arms of the discipline into sustained conversation, the series aims to model an integrative, methodologically rigorous humanism. The series welcomes studies, in the form of monographs and edited volumes, bearing on the pre-modern Buddhist world in all its diversity.
